Leon Borkowski completed his apprenticeship as an office management trainee at ERGO. After completing his training, he is now starting out at the new ERGO Tech Academy. We talked to him about his development.

Leon Borkowski, ERGO Group

Congratulations on passing your exams. What were the highlights of your training?

Thank you very much! For me, it was definitely the arrangement options I had myself. For the professional field of "Office Management" there are mandatory stations, but I was also able to choose many departments freely. My first training station was Event Management. I was right in the middle of planning a large trade show. I couldn't have gotten a better overview of the company.

Because of the Corona pandemic, a large part of your training was transferred to the home office. What were your experience in this situation?

That was a big step toward more independence and working self-responsibly. However, ERGO did a good job. Our training managers gave us clear structures and provided individual support. They also showed us ways to a healthy balance of work and private life.

You also need this balance because you play soccer for the regional league team SG Holzheim. What are the parallels between soccer and your job?

How to work well in a team and deal with criticism constructively. In soccer, the individual depends on the team. You only win if all have the same goal. The working atmosphere at ERGO makes that easy for me, because my colleagues are all committed, goal-oriented and helpful. The fact that ERGO is now a partner of the DFB and that the company's name is visible on the perimeter is something I really like!

And how did you get from your training as an office management assistant to the Tech Academy?

During my training, I learned that everything is possible at ERGO. The position at the new Tech Academy came about during my stint in Team Voice. When the group leader saw that I had the "Voice Spirit", i.e. that I was good with agile working, customer-oriented and enjoyed new technologies, he recommended me for the new department.

Starting at ERGO was the right decision for me!
