,,World Cup Buffet’’ sweetens the waiting period for the Germany match

Millions of fans keeping their fingers crossed for the German team against South Korea this afternoon – many ERGO colleagues are joining in as well, with pennants, flags and even a special „World Cup Buffet“ .

The buffet can be found in the office of Susanne Schweitzer, Simone Rüger and Regine Jovanovic at the ERGO office in Düsseldorf. Little sweets make the waiting for the game of the German Team bearable there today.

The fact that the Düsseldorf trio is attuned to football, football and football is made clear by a look through the office on the second floor: Flags, pennants, black-red-golden ribbons and a World Cup ball are proof: The three colleagues from the Human Resources department are fans of the German team. This is how they cultivate a tradition: „We decorate our office every two years, either for an European Championship or a World Cup,“ says Regine Jovanovic. But inside she actually suffers: After all, she is a fan of the Italian team, but the ‘Tiffosi’ are not in Russia this time ... That's why she is quite certain: „Germany will surely reach the second round today.“

„Fingers crossed“ is also the message at the company site in Hamburg. Many fans there are eagerly awaiting the final group game. Among them are Sonja Pohle, Michelle Grühn and Andreas Zeimer, who are all employees of Broker Sales. Black-red-golden flags are a must-have for the trio.

Everyone hopes that the game against South Korea today will not develop into a similar nail-biter as the opening game against Mexico. The game ended, as we know, with a historic defeat of our team. The result was reflected after the final whistle on the streets and public squares.

It was clear that things would have to change for the upcoming group match against Sweden. But the second game became an absolute football thriller and caused a lot of nervousness among the fans. The longed-for salvation came in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Toni Kroos turned the all-decisive free kick into a second goal and ensured the late victory for the German team. The relief of the team and the fans was huge. Many celebrated the success until deep into the night and the car parades could still be heard on the streets hours after the final whistle blew. With this important victory, the fans gained new hope to defend the title in Russia.

But before that, we're going to face South Korea. Some colleagues from the ERGO communication department have come to grips with their Asian rivals just a few days ago. To get to know the South Koreans better, they organized a short culinary excursion to the traditional Korean cuisine. The motto: Eating up the South Koreans before the game! Of course eating together was done in German outfits.

The Result: Not much of the Asian food remained. Surely a good omen for today's game – that's what the colleagues hope. They keep their fingers crossed for their German team!
