In the latest episode of the ERGO Future Skills Podcast, Arndt Pechstein and Martin Schwemmle explore exactly this question: How can genuine collaboration between humans and AI succeed?
Instead of viewing AI only as a shortcut to a result, the two future thinkers call for a change of perspective: away from a narrow focus on outcomes and towards a focus on the process. As in organisations more generally, the same holds true here: anyone who looks solely at the result fails to realise the full potential. Quality, creativity and the ability to learn all emerge from working together, not from a single prompt.
Things become particularly interesting when AI is treated like a team member – with clearly defined roles. The hosts describe four typical “AI personas” that many will immediately recognise from their working life:
- Research Assistant: AI scans large volumes of information, structures content and provides impulses – provided it is well briefed and its output is critically reviewed.
- Tester: AI helps simulate multiple perspectives – for example on sensitive emails, presentations or concepts. It shows how messages might be received by different target groups – but it does not replace real user testing.
- Challenger: As a critical sparring partner, AI asks questions, uncovers inconsistencies and reveals blind spots – from workshop design through to reflecting on leadership behaviour.
- Storyteller: AI supports the search for suitable examples and metaphors that make complex content emotionally accessible – and provides inspiration for our own, authentic stories.
What becomes clear is this: AI can do a great deal, but not everything. It combines data; we provide meaning, context and relevance. Strong results emerge when both are consciously brought together – in dialogue, step by step.
