Our customers expect insurance cover that suits their lifestyle and budget. Our Basic, Smart and Best product lines offer comprehensive and straightforward products to meet every need. At the same time, we’re making it easier for young drivers to start their own mobility journeys.

Basic: an affordable entry-level option featuring an approved repairer scheme

The Basic product range is aimed primarily at price-sensitive drivers. It offers an affordable entry point for motor insurance, with a focus on essential cover. Compared with Smart and Best, Basic offers foundational cover that always includes a designated repairer scheme. This has a positive effect on the premium. In the event of a claim, ERGO coordinates repairs process at a partner repair garage, organising benefits such as a free collection and delivery service, as well as a courtesy car. “Basic is the right policy for anyone looking for solid cover at an affordable premium, and a product that we also have our excellent partner repair garages to thank for”, says Peter Schnitzler, Head of Motor Insurance at ERGO Versicherung AG.

Smart and Best: greater protection for everyday life

The Smart and Best product ranges offer extended insurance cover for customers who expect their policy to deliver more. The insurance cover can also be tailored further to meet personal needs thanks to optional add-ons. New features include:

  • Motor liability: Damage to the policyholder's own property and motor vehicles is always covered under the insurance policy.
  • Comprehensive cover: Consequential damage caused by short circuits and animal bites are insured without any limit on the sum insured.
  • Accident and breakdown cover: This cover includes extended benefits, such as towing, as well as cover for hotel and car rental costs.
  • Using the wrong fuel: ERGO will cover up to 500 euros of the cost if the wrong fuel has been used and needs to be removed.

“Smart and Best offer additional protection in typical everyday situations. This means that, in the event of a claim, customers receive not only financial support but also practical assistance – for example, with towing, hotel accommodation or arranging car rental”, explains Peter Schnitzler.

Focus on young people

The new motor insurance rate offers targeted premium discounts for young drivers. Participation in the accompanied driving scheme pays off in particular:

  • Accompanied driving with ERGO from the age of 17: Participation in this programme (“BF17” in German) is premium-free until the policyholder turns 18.
  • If young drivers have completed an accompanied driving scheme with another insurer, ERGO will offer them a discounted premium.

“These measures are our way of helping young people embark on their own mobility journeys and making it more affordable for families”, says Schnitzler.
