Technical insurance: ERGO strengthens cover for small and medium-sized enterprises

New tariff bundles technical insurance for SMEs – more benefits, less complexity and attractive premiums.

Technische Versicherungen

With a comprehensively revised technical insurance tariff, ERGO is now offering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) significantly broader and, at the same time, more efficient insurance cover for their technical equipment and systems. Running a business without modern technology is unthinkable nowadays – yet at the same time, risks are increasing as digitalisation and automation advance. Reliable insurance cover is also essential for construction and installation projects

The new tariff combines all the relevant lines of technical insurance and is specifically tailored to the needs of SMEs. The package includes machinery insurance for fixed installations, including optional business interruption cover; machinery and comprehensive insurance for mobile and portable equipment; electronics and photovoltaic insurance; and construction and installation insurance.

Technical systems are now the backbone of many businesses – if a system fails this can quickly threaten a company’s very existence. With our new policy, we offer significantly enhanced cover whilst maintaining attractive premiums.

More benefits, less complexity

As part of the redesign, all products were brought into line with the current GDV recommended terms and conditions, and the scope of cover was specifically expanded. The latter includes, in particular, higher coverage limits as well as extended first-loss and cost cover (first-loss cover: flat-rate cover up to a fixed amount for items such as consumables; cost cover: additional costs incurred in the event of a claim, such as for replacement equipment or temporary solutions).

Furthermore, ERGO will waive any objections for gross negligence on claims up to €25,000, and for breach of obligation on claims up to €10,000. For damage up to €25,000, a waiver of underinsurance also applies, provided that the difference between the insured value and the sum insured does not exceed 20 per cent.

Further improvements include cover for data up to €25,000 at no extra cost, as well as the inclusion of charging points for electric vehicles in the cover – an issue of growing relevance for businesses. In addition, the range of insurable items has been expanded: mobile equipment used in agriculture, forestry and municipal engineering can now also be insured under machinery and comprehensive insurance.

Attractive terms for new and existing customers

In addition to expanded benefits and reduced complexity, customers also profit from attractive premiums. At the same time, the maximum sum insured in the electronics and construction-works lines of business has been raised from €1m to €5m. And existing customers are also included: thanks to an integrated improved-benefits guarantee, any new and better terms and conditions apply to them automatically and at no extra cost.

We continue to develop our technical insurance products as well, in order to meet our customers’ changing needs. Our aim is to offer businesses reliable, future-proof protection – with comprehensive cover, competitive terms, and solutions that keep pace with technological developments.

Extended cover for new risks

Another feature of the new tariff is the option to include risks in higher hazard classes (up to flood-hazard class 3) in the cover. ERGO is thus responding to changing risk profiles, such as those resulting from increasingly extreme weather events. This provides companies with even more comprehensive protection for their technical equipment – even under conditions that are becoming more and more challenging. With this new tariff, ERGO is maintaining its position as a high-performing partner for businesses that rely on reliable insurance cover and efficient processes.
