ERGO is a young group whose roots go back a long way. It was established in 1997/1998 as a merger of experienced German insurers.
1997 D.A.S., DKV, Hamburg-Mannheimer and Victoria merge to establish the ERGO Insurance Group
1999 Group asset manager MEAG and IT services provider ITERGO are set up
2000 Market entry in Italy, Russia, Poland and the Baltic States
2001 Exclusive Sales cooperation with German HypoVereinsbank (today a member of the UniCredit Group)
2002 Acquisition of German direct insurer KarstadtQuelle Versicherungen, today‘s ERGO Direkt Insurance
2004 Reorganisation and new Group management organisation according to segments
2006 Market entry in Turkey and India
2007 Representative Office opened in China
2009 Integration of travel insurer ERV and Austrian BA-CA Insurance
2010 Introduction of brand promise „To insure is to understand“
The Hamburg-Mannheimer and Victoria brands are merged into the ERGO brand
