How did you start your career?
“After completing my studies in Mathematics, I started in 1992 as a data processing coordinator, especially for mathematical topics, at Albingia Lebensversicherung. Later, I supported various projects in the life insurance field, first for Feilmeier und Juncker, then for IBM.
In 2002, I came to ERGO through IBM’s ESPRIT project, and led the sub-project on accounting. Three years later, I was given the opportunity to move to ERGO’s division responsible for reserving and projections in life business. In 2012, I became a group manager and then head of department. Since the foundation of the LKM unit in Classic Life in 2019, I am heading this unit.”
I am responsible for actuarial reserving under the German Commercial Code (HGB) in Classic Life. We determine and post the obligations on the liabilities side that we have towards our policy-holders. To do so, we help developing tailor-made systems. When it comes to major projects, we ensure that all requirements concerning actuarial reserving are taken into account. Our work is subject to supervisory law; accordingly, every year we prepare detailed documents.
What do you particularly enjoy about leadership?
I like the fact that I can actually implement my ideas. In addition, at my level I gain greater insights into topics that lie outside my own area, which helps me put strategic decisions in perspective.
What three measures does ERGO need to introduce in order to get women into management positions?
Increasing the percentage of women in top management should become one of the top priorities for our Boards of Management.
The topic of “reconciling leadership and family” should be integrated into development and leadership seminars so that we can discuss with the junior staff what an attractive leadership position should look like.
New talents should be selected by decision-making bodies with representative numbers of female and male members.
