Success in the European Company Sports Games

19 ERGO sportsmen and sportswomen from Germany successfully took part in the European Company Sports Games, which were held in Ghent from 21 to 25 June. A successful international mix of sports: the 5,000 athletes came from 25 European countries.

Six ERGO sportswomen and 13 sportsmen from Dusseldorf and Hamburg competed in a total of five of the 23 sports on offer, including chess, cycling, bridge, swimming and volleyball. The ERGO sportsmen and women achieved tremendous success, including two silver and nine bronze medals.

Dirk Sanne and Rolf Kühn won a silver medal in bridge and Karen Schmidt came second in the swimming. Bronze medals in the swimming also went to Gerald Friedrichs, Andrea Lattner, Karen Schmidt and Michael Stindl. Six came in fourth place, including the ERGO volleyball team and ERGO athlete Susanne Sievers in the open water swimming.

The athletes representing ERGO Belgium also achieved significant success: including a gold medal – first place in the football tournament.

After the event all the participants agreed: it had been a complete success, from the opening ceremony on the Wednesday over the three days of competition to the successful closing celebration on Saturday. And what’s more, Ghent is really worth a visit!
