Paralympics: David Behre scoops three medals

Magazine, 22.09.2016

It had to be seen to be believed: ERGO Accident Ambassador David Behre scooped three medals at the Paralympics in Rio: a gold in the team event, silver over 400 metres and bronze over 200 metres. Congratulations!

Only a few centimetres prevented David Behre from achieving gold in his 400-metre paradiscipline – but he should nevertheless be very proud of his silver medal. Only three hundreds of a second prevented the native Rhinelander from the gold medal. David Behre: “Three hundredths – that’s the blink of an eye. That was an amazing race by all the boys.”

Nevertheless, 46.23 seconds still means a European record for Behre. He thus improves his personal best over 400 metres by over a second.

Gold in the 4x100-metre relay

Behre already had two medals by his 30th birthday on 13.09.2016. Firstly he lined up with his team mates Markus Rehm, Felix Streng and Johannes Floors for the 4x100 metre relay, and came second behind the USA – silver! Then just a few minutes after the finish, the German quartet looked up at the scoreboard and couldn’t believe their eyes: the Americans had been disqualified because of a baton change fault – gold for the German team!

Bronze over 200 metres

Only two hours after his relay triumph, David Behre was once again in his next final, this time over 200 metres – and took home the bronze medal. A masterful performance. “You’ve just got to quickly get back out there and concentrate. That needs the whole team behind you with physios and doctors”, says Behre, describing the short time between the two finals. Naturally he is hugely proud to have made it onto the podium again. He sprinted to the bronze medal in a new European record time of 21.41 seconds and stood once again on the podium.

Top performance at the Paralympics

David Behre can be more than satisfied with his performance in Rio – the intensive training in advance had paid off.
