Victoriaplatz to be renamed ERGO-Platz

Press release, 12.06.2018

Düsseldorf District Council 1 has voted to rename Victoriaplatz, which will now be known as ERGO-Platz. In future, the official address for the main entrance at the ERGO Tower will be ERGO-Platz 1, and the entrance towards the Rhine will be ERGO-Platz 2.

ERGO Headquarter Düsseldorf, Germany

Markus Rieß, Chief Executive Officer of the ERGO Group, stated: “VICTORIA is one of the strong roots from which ERGO has grown, and we have evolved successfully from these beginnings. Our domestic and international business is controlled from Düsseldorf. Renaming the square is the right decision at the right time, and it sees us taking a further step into the future.”

International insurance group with strong roots in Düsseldorf

The history of VICTORIA in Düsseldorf dates back to 1923, when the subsidiary VICTORIA am RHEIN was founded here. In 1979, the former VICTORIA Versicherung insurance company purchased a part of the old Düsseldorf exhibition centre; this area was later renamed Victoriaplatz, and in 1986 the company moved in. In 1998, the 108-metre tower and the extension were officially opened. More than 4,000 people now work at the Düsseldorf ERGO office.

The new name will apply only to the ERGO buildings; the name of the underground station and the green area close to the Rhine terraces will remain unchanged.
