ERGO´s official "DFB CUP TOUR" to start on the Zugspitze

Press Release, 04.04.2018

Together with the German Football Association (DFB), ERGO will for the second time be presenting the official "DFB CUP TOUR" during the 2017/18 season. This year´s tour marks the 75th anniversary of the DFB Cup season. On 5 April, ERGO and the DFB will be extending an invitation to take part in the tour start on the Zugspitze. One prominent supporter attending will be Stefan Effenberg. Interested fans can experience history from 75 cup seasons in a travelling tour bus.

As the DFB Cup partner, ERGO will be once again be visiting various locations across the whole of Germany´s football landscape during the anniversary year 2018, along with the winner´s trophy. The criterion for this year´s selection focused on places that have written Cup history or are iconic for the Federal Republic.

Tour start on the Zugspitze – with Stefan Effenberg
The tour will be making a high-flying start. On Thursday, 5 April 2018, the DFB Cup winner´s trophy will be a guest on the Zugspitze, a mountain to the south-west of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The idea behind this is that, for many German football clubs, winning the DFB Cup is believed to create the ultimate feeling. This emotion is now to reach Germany´s highest geographic point at 2,962 metres.

Footballer Stefan Effenberg will be taking receipt of the winner´s trophy, which is firstly to be transported to the peak in the cable car opened at the end of 2017. The former national player is one of the few players to have won the DFB Cup with two clubs, in both cases as captain - with Borussia Mönchengladbach in 1995 and FC Bayern Munich in the year 2000.

Travelling Cup Museum to show history from 75 seasons
At the lower Zugspitze cable car terminal, football fans and other interested parties will have an opportunity to take a closer look at the DFB Cup winner´s trophy from 9 until 11 h and from 14 to 16 h. In addition, highlights from 75 cup seasons are to be presented in a Volkswagen tour bus which has been converted into a travelling Cup Museum. Visitors can view exhibits and videos on three levels.
The DFB Cup winner´s trophy is also to be presented inside the lower terminal itself. Here visitors can photograph themselves with the trophy.

Ahead of the final in Berlin on 19 May, the Cup Tour will be stopping off at nine other locations, all of them places where the Cup has played a special role in the past.
