Questions for Laurence Cornaert

How did you start your career?

“I am actuary. I studied physics and made a master in actuarial science 30 years ago. My first job was actuary at Secura Belgian Re where I developed pricing models for non-proportional reinsurance in General Insurance.

After several years, I accepted new challenges in Non-Life insurance. Given the context of market concentration in the insurance sector at that time, I had the opportunity to enrich my experience in most of Non-Life business in pricing, profitability monitoring and reserving. Due to a merge, I switched to life insurance as pricing & profitability responsible and finally, as actuarial manager.

I joined DKV Belgium in June 2017 as actuarial function responsible.

What makes you proud?

I am proud when I see that things I developed stay long in the organisation. I always have a smile when I hear young actuaries at my first employer use, as a matter of course, terms and ways of working that I had established when I worked there more than 20-25 years ago.
