Communicating as partners with our stakeholders, be they customers, sales partners, employees, investors or society, creates the foundation on which we build relationships of mutual trust. The Diversity Charter: diversity opens doors

ERGO and its Group companies in Germany are part of the corporate initiative “Charta der Vielfalt” (Diversity Charter), whose objective is to infuse corporate culture in Germany with awareness, respect and appreciation for diversity and inspire companies to value it.

One of the key factors influencing a company’s business success and its credibility as an organisation is the degree to which it fosters diversity among its employees. Everyone benefits from an atmosphere of mutual respect in which people are supported to realise their individual talents and capabilities.

Experiencing respect – no matter who you are
Signatories to the Charter commit themselves to creating a working environment free from all forms of prejudice, in which all employees experience respect, regardless of their gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religious or political beliefs, disabilities, age, sexual orientation and identity.

Over 1,000 signatories
The German Diversity Charter came into being in 2006; its patron is German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Within a short space of time, the Charter advanced to become one of Germany’s largest networks and to take a central place in the country’s world of work. Over 1,000 companies and public institutions are now signatories to the Charter, demonstrating their commitment to the principles enshrined in it.

The UN Global Compact: committed to responsibility across the globe

ERGO is committed to upholding the ten principles enshrined in the UN Global Compact, and to working with other signatories to promote the tenets of corporate social responsibility and to act as a role model.

The Global Compact's objective is to encourage people and organisations to join forces to meet the challenges posed by globalisation. By working together, businesses aim to become part of the solution to these challenges. The voluntary initiative encompasses companies from all world regions, international employee representative bodies and organisations from civil society.

Respecting and realising fundamental values
The ten principles enshrined in the Global Compact arose from a global consensus on the basis of such documents as the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development. Signatories to the Global Compact commit themselves to respecting, promoting and implementing fundamental values in relation to human rights and decent working conditions, protecting the environment and combating corruption within their sphere of influence.

Demonstrating our commitment: The Communication on Progress
ERGO is committed to transparency and realises this commitment by giving regular accounts of our activities on social responsibility, meeting the requirement laid down in the Global Compact to issue a regular Communication on Progress. ERGO and its Group companies take their social responsibility seriously and put it into practice by making a tangible contribution to solving urgent problems in our society.

ERGO helps where help is needed, particularly where people take on responsibility for themselves and others and aim to shape their own lives. Educational projects for children and young people are the central focus of the large number of activities and initiatives we support.
