Corporate responsibility is an inherent part of ERGO’s guiding principles. Now the Company has significantly increased its reporting about these activities: at www.ergo.com the Group provides a comprehensive overview of the Company’s extensive and wide-reaching commitment to sustainability under the heading “Responsibility”.
At ERGO, corporate responsibility is inextricably linked to the Company’s core business. “As insurers we make promises for the future every day. We ensure against risks and enable people to look forward confidently to the future,” is how Dr. Torsten Oletzky, Chairman of the ERGO Board of Management, describes the Company’s self-image. “We think in long-term categories and act accordingly – that’s our business.”
On its new sustainability portal, under the heading “Responsibility at ERGO” the Company provides information on its corporate values, Codes of Conduct and target group promises, as well as key figures on employees, environmental management and donations.
Under the heading “Business Practices”, ERGO provides information on insurance products for environmentally conscious customers and forward-looking management of investments. Under “Employees” ERGO also presents, amongst other things, initiatives introduced by the Company towards promoting diversity and reconciling work and family life.
Under “Environment”, ERGO focuses on the systematic development of its certified environmental management scheme and the issue of carbon neutrality: after carrying out a five-stage plan, the Company aims to operate climate neutral by 2015.
The principle of sustainability also characterises ERGO’s social activities. Under “Society”, ERGO presents its commitments in four areas, notably, “Education & Science”, “Health & Sports”, “Music” and “Social & Community Projects”. Above all, the Company helps children and young people to develop their abilities and take an active part in society.
Interviews with ERGO representatives and videos of different projects give readers additional new insights into the company.
ERGO also applies its brand promise “To insure is to understand” in its commitment to the environment, society and its employees. “We understand that, as a responsible company, we have an obligation to make concrete contributions in different areas to help solve problems of society”, stated Oletzky.
The Group intends to continue to make more information on its corporate responsibility available: a sustainability report is planned to appear next.
