DKV Deutsche Krankenversicherung, the ERGO health insurer, is one of the few companies in Germany to offer supplementary insurance for dentures with 100 percent reimbursement. This eliminates the normal excess for customers who even receive implants and inlays.
The new tariff (KDTP100) reimburses the entire invoice amount for dentures, dental composites, inlays and implants, less the advance amount paid by the statutory health insurers. Even if the health insurer does not bear treatment costs because, for example, the dentist is not on the national health insurers’ approved list, then DKV still pays 70 percent of the invoice amount.
“I am not aware of any other tariff on the market that offers such extensive benefits when it comes to dentures”, says Benno Schmeing, Head of Product Management at DKV. “For example, whoever wants veneered crowns for aesthetic reasons can be reimbursed by us for all teeth. Other health insurers usually only pay for front teeth.”
A further advantage is that DKV also assumes the costs for adjusting dentures. According to DKV, around one in seven cases of functional analysis and functional therapy benefits prevent damage such as pain or clicking in the jaw joint. The costs involved, between 100 and 1,500 euros, are not taken over by statutory health insurers. The new DKV tariff, however, includes these benefits.
Also included are costs for acupuncture, general anaesthetic, and other pain therapy at the dentist. This is particularly beneficial to those who are scared of going to the dentist. Additionally, DKV pays for mouth guards to prevent teeth grinding at night.
The KDTP100 tariff can be taken out online at www.dkv.com and is calculated according to the type of insurance against damage required, meaning that no ageing provisions are set up. The monthly cost starts at 16.11 euros for young adults, increasing with age to up to 63.92 euros.
