Press release 23 March 2016
Many Germans spend the Easter break riding their mountain bikes, going climbing or on the ski slopes. If anything untoward happens, most of them are not covered by insurance. According to an Allensbach study, an opinion polling institute, 63 percent of people over the age of 14 do not currently have personal accident insurance. Last-minute insurance cover can be taken out for one person or the entire family flexibly using a smartphone with the accident protection mobile app by ERGO Direkt – on the way during a stop at a service station or even after having arrived on-site.
Users can take out accident cover for one to 27 days with immediate effect, and it is valid worldwide. The “Komfort” accident cover option includes disability and accidental death benefits; ERGO also reimburses costs for recovery and cosmetic procedures. A daily hospital allowance and out-of-pocket payment for medicines are also included in the cover. The “Premium” option also contains compensation and more extensive benefits for the degree of disability to limbs. The benefits included in the cover are explained in detail in the app.
To take out cover, it is only necessary to have a smartphone with Internet access, the accident protection mobile app and an account with online payment service PayPal. In the event of an accident, users can report it directly to ERGO Direkt using the app.
The app is currently available via the App Store and Google Play Store. Further information can be found at www.ergodirekt.de/unfall-schutz (German).
