The international companies of the ERGO Group achieved a premium volume of 4.3 billion Euros in 2008. When broken down into individual segments, premium income was 1.4 billion euros (Life), 1.5 billion euros (property and casualty), 0.5 billion euros (legal expenses) and 0.8 billion euros (health). International business accounted for 24 percent of total premiums for the ERGO Group.
International activities are the most dynamic area of growth within the Group. In Europe, ERGO is No. 1 in health and legal expenses insurance.
Strategy
ERGO is concentrating on international expansion in individual regions, in markets which can be expected to achieve high rates of growth in the medium to long term. This includes Eastern and Southern Europe, China and India in particular, as well as other selected countries across Asia. The special approaches to international business focus on the areas of legal expenses, direct sales and over-the-counter sales in banks. Internationally, the ERGO Group is predominantly active in personal lines business, which is consistent with the main activity in the domestic market in Germany.
Objectives
The ERGO Group’s aim is to expand further in the international sphere. In doing so, it benefits from being part of the Munich Re – one of the leading risk carriers worldwide. At the same time, it aims to continue to develop and strengthen existing activities. In 2012 international business is expected to account for one third of the company value.
Owing to achievements, expertise, security and size, ERGO aims to be the first choice within Germany and internationally for customers, shareholders, employees as well as in-house and third-party agents.
